There are many different tests you may be required to take if you want to become a United States citizen. Two important tests include the English test and the U.S. government test.
The U.S. government test requires you to know the laws of the United States. You are also required to know about the history of the United States. As someone who is applying for citizenship you should care about the history of the country and the major events that occurred throughout the different centuries. You should know the names of previous presidents and the years they were in office. You should know about the United States and be proud to want to join the country as a citizen.
There are certain circumstances which might make you eligible to skip the literacy test. You should be able to prove you have some type of disability that makes you unable to complete it. You should be able to prove this through a doctor that you are physically unable to take the test. Another reason you may not have to take the government test is if you are 65 years or older and you must have been a permanent resident alien in the United States for more than 20 years.
When you are wondering how to become a us citizen you should also be aware that you have to take a literacy test too. A literacy test will test your knowledge about the English language. You will need to know the basic English words that are most commonly used throughout the country. You should also be able to understand the common phrases used in English so you can get by as a citizen in the public. You need to be able to function throughout the country and if you cannot speak the language then it will be impossible to find a job and make a living and function throughout society.
Some people are not required to take the literacy test. However, it must be proven by a doctor that you have some sort of physical or mental disability which makes it impossible for you to take. If you cannot prove a disability exists then you will have to take the test. Another stipulation may be that you are older than 50 years of age and have lived in the United States for 20 years or older. If you haven’t lived in the United States for 20 years but you have been a permanent resident alien for 15 and you are 55 years of age then you can be omitted from taking the test.
When you apply for citizenship as an American then you will be required to take a literacy exam and be tested on your knowledge of the U.S. government and history. You need to know these things. There are only a few things which would make you eligible not to take these exams. You should be able to speak English and you should have a clear understanding of the American laws and the history of the United States.
